This little Dutch barge is from the The Kaag Lakes, or Kagerplassen in the Netherlands. They are a network of lakes, rivers, and canals located south of Amsterdam with famously shallow banks, as such these Kagenaar barges are shallow drafted and therefore ideal for the inland waterways of the UK.
If you’re looking for something much brighter than a narrowboat, this is the one you’ve been looking for. Huge windows bring natural light flooding in, joining up your home with the natural beauty of the waterways outside.
The hull is in lovely condition and we invite you to confirm this with a survey, we will pay for the boat to be lifted to accommodate this and in most cases, we will take care of any welding recommendations that result (we’re not expecting any). She was blacked this week (June 2025) with new anodes.
The diesel inboard engine is in great running order, she’s a delight to drive, even if you’re new to this.
With the right design and execution, these Kagenaars have the potential to be lovely homes and I’m happy to show you an example of one that was previously refurbished for reference.
There’s some kit on board already that you can make use of: a calorifier, some solar a good water tank and a wood burner waiting to be fitted. There’s the beginnings of a kitchen. The sea toilet will be welded shut so you can replace that with a compost or cassette toilet.
We can deliver anywhere in the UK to a craning off point (for a fee). We are open for viewings here at Hemel Marina every day except Sunday. You can find this and more boats on our website. Message me for a walk–through video.
