48 x 8ft Kagenaar style Dutch barge
Head height - 5ft8 dropping down to 5ft as you move forward in the cabin
5ft4 airdraft (with wheelhouse collapsed, an extra two foot with the wheelhouse up)
2ft6 draft
The Kaag lakes in the Netherlands are famously shallow banked, so the Kagenaar boats that come from there (like this one) are shallow drafted and flat bottomed, making them absolutely ideal for our UK canals.
You’ll get lots of admiration on the towpath when you’re sitting out on the expansive rear deck. Some people convert the deck to create an extra room, but one summer of having this lovely outdoor space might make you think twice.
If you’re a little more diminutive and enjoy antagonising your tall acquaintances (as I do), then this might well be the perfect boat for you. Although the head height in the cabin is slightly restricted, the river-level windows create a feeling of unity with the water and wildlife outside your window. It’s something you simply don’t get on a narrowboat (as you lose the view when you sit down. The whole cabin is flooded with light and the widebeam dimensions give you a real feeling of space.
There is a gas locker, sink, water tank, sea toilet1 (which we can cap off if you require), and power comes from a reliable and responsive four cylinder diesel inboard engine.
This boat is bursting with style and beauty and could be stunning if you can put your own stamp on her.
We can deliver anywhere in mainland UK (for a fee). We are open for viewings at Hemel Marina everyday except Sunday (by appointment). Call today. We will be blacking the boat and attaching new anodes as part of the sale. We have run up the engine, checked the alternator, gearbox and steering so she is ready to cruise away. There is no BSS or mooring with this boat (we can give you the details of a BSS examiner).
